Cornwall Knotweed Forum Case Study
In 2003 Cornwall’s Japanese Knotweed Forum was invited to exhibit its work involving the prevention and eradication of Knotweed at the ‘Life Long Learning Tent’ based at the Royal Horticulture Society’s Chelsea Flower Show.
With the views of the Knotweed Forum’s more than 40 organisational members to take into account, and initial permission for the exhibition floor plan having been gained a year earlier in 2002, Sanders Design had to work under the constraints of a strict structural guide.
Working closely within a committee that included Cornwall County Council, Camborne School of Mines, the Environment Agency and the National Trust, extensive research into Japanese Knotweed was pursued, hundreds of different sketches were generated, and final artwork produced.
This was then transferred to panels printed onto a plastic-based board and secured to a wooden framework, thus effecting exhibition boards for the show. With a water fountain located at its centre, the exhibition area ran to 30ft square.
Ultimately, our graphic design efforts not only resulted in a gold-medal winning public exhibition (later also exhibited at the Royal Cornwall Show and the Eden Project), but also gained the Knotweed Forum valuable publicity both in the local and national press.
